If you hate your laptop and it's completely insured, get yourself one of these. Unless you're planning some computing sessions at the North Pole, this is definitely one of the dumbest ways to spend $25 we've seen in a long, long time. This is a joke, right? – Charlie White

The Lenovo design and engineering team has been working on this one for well over a year. It started out as a idea: let’s build the most advanced ThinkPad ever, in the thinnest and lightest package possible. What a great opportunity to exercise the world class technical capabilities of the Lenovo team. The best engineers and designers thrive on challenges like this. Who wouldn’t?

I was fortunate to have met Steve Hamm from BusinessWeek magazine early in the process and shared with him several design concepts that we were working on. Steve was so interested in the work we were doing that he asked to become a “fly on the wall” for the entire development cycle. Wow. A journalist integrated into the Lenovo inner workings was a totally new idea with lots potential reward, but also risk. After a few interesting discussions we decided to bring him into the fray.

Yesterday the article resulting from this endeavour went live on the BusinessWeek website. Steve tells the story much better there than I could ever do. I hope you enjoy the peek behind the curtain into the development of what I believe is the best ThinkPad we have ever made. We are one giant step closer to perfect.

Acer Aspire One Netbook

VoodooPC's 20.1 Inch Laptop With SLI

VoodooPC a well–known PC Enthusiast Company today at CES unveiled its latest monster the Voodoo ENVY HW:201 Notebook PC.

The new laptop, features two NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX GPUs running in NVIDIA SLI mode and is powered by by AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core mobile processor. Penryn-Based Laptop

Lenovo ThinkPad X61 ultraportable notebooks with the new 45-nanometer Intel Core 2 Duo processor, codenamed Penryn, will be available starting this month, according to an announcement from Lenovo.

The refreshed Thinkpad X61 12-inch laptops will be available with the Core 2 Duo Penryn T8100 at 2.1GHz and T8300 at 2.4GHz, both with 3MB of L2 cache.

Select retailers already offer the Penryn-based X61 sub-notebooks. At MacMall, the preconfigured X61 with the T8100 processor, 1GB of system memory, and a 120GB hard drive is priced at $1,549.99, while the same laptop with the T8300, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB HDD costs $1,609.99.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X61 systems feature a 12.1? display with 1024 x 768 resolution, the Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics, support for 802.11a/b/g/draft n wireless networking, and Gigabit Ethernet LAN connection. In select models, there are a wireless broadband module, Bluetooth, and a fingerprint reader. These laptops have three USB ports, a PC Card slot, Secure Digital card slot, Firewire, and a VGA output. An optical drive is available via the separately sold ThinkPad X6 UltraBase docking station.

Regarding operating systems, there are Windows Vista and Windows XP Professional choices.

Currently, it is not known if and when the PC maker is going to release the Tablet PC version of the ThinkPad X61 notebook with the 45nm Core 2 Duo chip.

Gaming Notebook

HP is going to update this month the HP Pavilion HDX entertainment and gaming notebook with a new graphic card option.

The Pavilion HDX, which currently comes with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB video card, will be configurable with the Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTS 512MB GPU.

This large 15.3-pound laptop features a 20.1-inch display with up to 1920×1200 (1080p) resolution, and is based on the Intel “Santa Rosa” platform with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The notebook features up to 4GB of system memory, up to 500GB hard drive storage capacity, HD DVD and Bly-Ray optical drive options, an integrated TV tuner, and four Altec Lansing speakers accompanied by a subwoofer.

Along with regular laptop ports and slots, the HDX provides an HDMI output and an eSATA connector. The basic HP Pavilion HDX configuration is priced at $1,999.

NotebookReview reviews Toshiba Satellite P100 laptop and concludes that Toshiba P100 series is a truly nice house computer. It packs much punch than many desktops into a really tiny sum of place. With much than sufficient ability for normal house computation tasks the P100 would be an elegant selection as a household computer.

Build character is superior and it does not have warm or thunderous. Its intelligent looks won’t feel out of spot in your surroundings. Value is a little tougher to evaluate. With its large cover and character components the P100-J100 in specific seems to be a better value.

Sci-Tech Today reviews Toshiba P105 series laptop (modal P105-S6084) and concludes with valuation of 4. 5 out of 5 that Toshiba P105-S6084 Satellite notebook is a strong multimedia notebook that should play most computing needs with aplomb. Good things are large and sunny cover, lot of memory and warehousing plus TV tuner. While the terrible things are integrated artwork and really few installed programs.

NotebookReview reviews Toshiba Satellite P105-S921 notebook and concludes that Toshiba eventually gives us a genuine gaming laptop. After having big 17″ multimedia monsters like the Qosmio, they now provide one of the best gaming operation to boot. Perfect for Lan parties, or just showing away to your friends how often faster your laptop is to their PCs! Good points for the laptop are strong, lovely equally lit and crispy cover, built in IR distant, built in fingerprint scanner, USB ports on every position and dual book controls Integrated numpad. While terrible points are no subwoofer, easy 4200RPM difficult effort, reduced battery living and side gets really warm.

Laptops go large

"Who says smaller is better in the on-the-go world of laptop computing? Clearly not some of the world's top PC makers, who are testing the waters for super-sized laptop computers that look more like briefcases than notebooks. The trend is being driven as much by technology as demand, fueled by 19- and 20-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors now starting to enter the market, upping the ante on the previous biggest models at 17 inches," reports Reuters from this week's Computex trade show in Taipei.

"Dell Inc, the world's top PC maker, along with Taiwan's Acer Inc and South Korea's Samsung Electronics, have all announced plans for or begun selling mega-laptops with screens of 19- and 20-inches."

The Dell shown above has a "a slew of bells and whistles, including eight speakers plus subwoofer, detachable wireless keyboard and a gyroscope-enabled remote," says the report.
